CREATORS INSIGHTS (Formally Creators Workshop newsletter)

It's been a while since my last newsletter, and I’ve missed writing these literary masterpieces for you! That blank canvas of words has been waiting for me, just as I’ve been waiting for the moment to return to it. Between time at the easel, running the school, and stepping into the role of a judging for a student art shows, life’s been moving at a fast pace. I have a few paintings due yesterday, and in the midst of all this, I’ve realized how much I’ve missed connecting with all of you here. Writing this newsletter has always been a means of discovery - a way to explore the ever changing world of art, including my own thoughts that, I hope, inspire and resonate with you. It’s easy to let the demands of life take over, but I’ve made a commitment to myself—and to you—to show up here every week. I will find the time, the space, and do whatever it takes. Whether you’ve been with me from the beginning or have just joined me, I want you to know that you are truly appreciated. Your attention is a gift I don't take lightly. So, thank you. Sending you all good vibes for a creative day ahead.
Note; I changed a few newsletter format things; The newsletter has a new name; Creatorsinsights.com The purpose here is so the newsletter has it's own website. Although the newsletter was originally a tool to market my school Creators Workshop, the newsletter evolved into a community of art enthusiasts outside of the school. I'll still post what's new at the Creators Workshop but a lot of the info. will be more universal.

Branching Into Beauty: How Fractal Mathematics Creates Lifelike Trees in Art
A fascinating new article explores how artists unknowingly use fractal mathematics to create lifelike tree images. The piece reveals that trees naturally follow fractal patterns—where branches repeat the same structure at different scales—and the most compelling tree art mimics these mathematical principles. Scientists found that when paintings feature branches with the correct mathematical ratios, viewers rate them as more realistic and beautiful. The article explains how this discovery bridges art and science, showing that our brains are wired to recognize these natural patterns even when we can't explain why. Whether you're an art lover or math enthusiast, this exploration offers a fresh lens to appreciate that wonderful tree outside your window. Genius Takes a Bough: Leonardo's Tree Rule Gets a 21st Century Revision
Leonardo da Vinci theorized centuries ago that when a tree branch splits, the sum of the cross-sectional areas of the resulting branches equals the area of the parent branch. This "rule of trees" theory has influenced fields from botany to art, but recent research challenges this long-held theory suggesting that Leonardo wasn't entirely correct. This new theory reshapes our understanding of how trees grow and transport nutrients, suggesting nature follows different mathematical principles than Leonardo proposed.

The Masterful Deception: Inside the World of High-Stakes Art Forgery
The Van Gogh Museum recently discovered that several pieces in their collection, previously certified as authentic, may actually be elaborate fakes. The art world faces a growing threat as sophisticated forgeries challenge even the most respected authentication methods. These revelations come amid new scientific techniques that merge art history with cutting-edge technology to detect forgeries. What happens when a painting cherished for decades turns out to be created by an unknown hand? Is it less beautiful once we learn the truth? For art collectors, and museums, these questions have real consequences, both financial and cultural.

The Art Revolution That Rocked America: How One Ashcan Painter Navigated America's First Avant-Garde Storm
The ground under the American art world experienced a major seismic shift in 1913 when European modern art at the invitation of American artist Robert Henri, made it's debut at the historic art exhibition at the 69th Regiment Armory. The show introduced radical new artistic movements like Cubism and Fauvism, sending shockwaves through the nation's cultural landscape. At the center of this storm stood American artist Robert Henri who found himself caught between tradition and revolution as the art world transformed around him. This historical cultural moment forever changed how Americans viewed art, setting the stage for American artists to explore the abstract art movement.
